DLJdirect, AT&T Offer Wireless Trading

Online broker DLJdirect is joining with AT&T Wireless Services to offer its customers trading capabilities via any Internet-ready wireless device.

Through DLJdirect Anywhere, customers will be able to access quotes and news as well as make trades, check account balances, and monitor the status of a trade.

"Investors want to be connected to their money," says Yankee Group analyst Marc Pollina. Wireless communication allows investors to get instant feedback on how their portfolio is performing, and it offers a sense of power to be able to hit a button and make a trade, Pollina says.

J.P. Morgan & Co. Inc. made a similar announcement Thursday. It will use its SynDirect Wireless service to notify customers of the availability of bonds via E-mail. J.P. Morgan customers will also be able to place orders and track bond performance from a Palm VII or Wireless Application Protocol-enabled phones.
