Eastman Chemical Company and Global Logistics Technologies Inc. (G-Log), today announced the formation of ShipChem.com, a new company that will automate the process of shipping and tracking chemicals and plastics.
ShipChem.com will use Web-based logistics and transportation software from G-Log to help mid-sized chemical and plastics companies boost buying power and get competitive prices for shipping raw and hazardous materials. G-Log's software will automatically notify shippers of delays and allow shippers to re-route or postpone orders while in progress.
Eastman Chemical will be the company's first customer and says it will outsource its global logistics operations to the new company. "Our arrangement allows Eastman to focus on our core businesses while committing global logistics solutions to ShipChem.com," Terry Begley, Eastman VP, global customer supply chain, said in a statement.
As an investor and service provider, G-Log will work with ShipChem.com to develop Global Command and Control Portal (GC3), which manages domestic and international shipments for global companies. ShipChem.com will use a modified version of the product that meets specific requirements of the chemical and plastics industry.
ShipChem.com expects to be up and running when GC3 is released in June.
