EDS has named former Cingular Wireless executive Frank Boyer to the position of chief supply officer effective Sept. 30. Boyer, 55, will lead EDS's procurement services team and will report directly to CFO Bob Swan, EDS says.

Boyer most recently served as senior VP for Cingular Wireless' supply chain group. He also held a similar position at Southwestern Bell Wireless.

Boyer will fill a newly created position at EDS. An EDS spokesman says the company is looking to simplify its purchasing operations in an effort to cut costs and become more efficient. EDS chairman and CEO Michael Jordan has said the company needs to lower its overall operating costs by 20%.
