Eloquent Releases Software For Streaming Media

Eloquent Inc. has released its Eloquent Communications Server 6.0 software for streaming media, featuring easier access by users to multiple-content types.

The new software is available immediately and pricing starts at $125,000. It runs on Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0 and supports major databases such as Oracle 8, Microsoft SQL 7, and, in smaller installations, Sybase Anywhere 6, Eloquent executives say.

"We chose the Eloquent technology because it lets use do a lot of things we couldn't do in the past," said Tom Hill, program manager at the education and training center for the Tandem unit of Compaq. "We wanted to be able to go across all of those various Mime-types and make them available on the Web," and other products weren't able to do that, he says. Most products require all content files to be converted into HTML first, but the new Eloquent software does not, reducing the time it takes to make content available on the Web, Hill says.

Enhancements include higher interactivity, such as personalization of content for simple streaming media and rich media content, plus centralized management of content, including organization, management, security and personalization, the company says. The software works with other major streaming server technologies, including Microsoft Windows Media Services, RealNetworks, and QuickTime.
