GE Information Services today announced availability of its GE InterBusiness Partner 2.1, a platform for companies seeking to outsource hosting of extranets that shepherd various buyers and sellers into an online trading community.
Enhancements in this version include support for digital certificates and Secure Sockets Layer 3.0 as well as the ability to handle more than 50,000 users per community. It also lets users set up several levels of administration so that various people in different locations can manage a certain aspect of a particular extranet encompassing their trading partners.
"Large companies are realizing they need to strengthen their trading-partner relationships in order to compete effectively," Jim Naughton, global marketing manager of extranet solutions for GEIS, said in a statement.
InterBusiness Partner attempts to help companies forge tighter links with customers, suppliers, and employees through bulletin boards, Web pages, electronic mail and directory services in addition to consulting from GEIS on how to integrate that all together. Access is available through GE's private TCP/IP network or via the public Internet using a Web browser.
