GoAmerica Pairs With EDS, Oracle

EDS and wireless Internet service provider GoAmerica Communications Corp. said Tuesday at PC Expo in New York that they are forging a strategic relationship to sell mobile products and services to businesses. GoAmerica also said it has licensed Oracle's Portal-to-Go wireless portal software and will integrate it with its Go.Web technology.

EDS and GoAmerica expect to market and sell the other's services, and the two will jointly develop and market new services. EDS, for example, has a banking application that GoAmerica could offer over its wireless system to its banking and financial service customers. EDS, in turn, could use GoAmerica's Go.Web technology to help its corporate customers provide their employees with wireless access to corporate intranets and data. The companies promise to offer more details when they reach a definitive agreement by late summer.

The need to access corporate data is behind GoAmerica's licensing of Oracle's Portal-to-Go, which GoAmerica president and CEO Aaron Dobrinsky says will let users access and personalize corporate intranet data. No date was given, however, for completing the integration work between Portal-to-Go and Go.Web. GoAmerica also revealed a deal with Hewlett-Packard to incorporate the Go.Web service into HP's wireless wide area network system. The GoAmerica service will be available on HP's OmniBook and Pavilion notebook PCs. No start date was given.
