Cubist Deploys Spotfire to Gain an Information Advantage in Sales and Marketing

Visual, interactive analytic applications add a new dimension to data analysis.
Cubist Pharmaceuticals has deployed Spotfire DecisionSite software from Spotfire, Inc., provider of visual, interactive analytic applications. Headquartered in Lexington, Massachusetts, Cubist is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the research, development and commercialization of anti-infective products. Cubist recently announced a record quarter and rising sales for CUBICIN, its flagship drug.

Cubist has an extensive business intelligence (BI) infrastructure that it uses to create daily reports that monitor a number of key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the sales and marketing of CUBICIN, its flagship drug for the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections. These reports are required to deliver basic information about sales and marketing performance; however, the company found that traditional static BI reports can't quickly respond to changing market forces on a day-to-day or even hour-to-hour basis. Cubist needed an analytics solution that worked within its BI infrastructure to drill further into its data to ask and answer questions on a dynamic basis -- at the pace an agile enterprise requires to compete.

Spotfire's flagship DecisionSite software now adds a new dimension to Cubist's data analysis, enabling employees to ask and answer questions not in standard, static BI reports. As a result, Cubist can drill down into each sales territory on-the-fly to ask new questions, explore previously unforeseen possibilities, and to merge data from new sources without a development cycle or new programming code.

Because DecisionSite has an intuitive, visual interface, it also enables Cubist to get more from its current data investment in BI by allowing the company to spread the footprint of analytics across employees at all levels in the organization.
