Data Scanning And Capture Tools Aid In Productivity, Study Shows

Nearly three in four companies using tools for scanning and capturing data from documents do so to increase productivity and efficiency, an industry trade group says.
A user survey by the Association for Information and Image Management also found 30 percent of the respondents implementing the technology to boost customer service and 28 percent for regulatory compliance.

AIIM also found that network-attached copier/printers and low-end scanners are becoming an important part of companies' scanning-and-capture strategies. In addition, use of the technologies is increasingly becoming decentralized, with scanning moving closer to the point of document creation.

Fully 53 percent of mid-sized organizations and 60 percent of large organizations use scanning and capture technologies for corporate correspondence, litigation, contracts and other processes. In addition, 52 percent of mid-sized organizations and 62 percent of large organizations use the technologies for invoice processing, order processing, cash receipts and expense accounts and other financial processes.

Nevertheless, AIIM found obstacles to adoption, including hard-dollar issues, such as how to justify the investment, and soft-dollar issues, such as how to deal with the change management issues associated with implementation.
