I'd hardly call it a flame-out. While Google, like Frank Underwood, understands that power is better than money, it is indeed in business to make money. Their Google-Fiber plans are like those of drug pushers. Give people a taste for free a low-cost, then once you have your hooks in them you can start charging them actual market value.
Here, it looks like the costs of Google Fiber in KC are more than fair. (But then, I live in Boston -- where lots of things cost a lot more than they do in the rest of the country.)
