Open Text Launches iPhone App

The FirstClass Mobile client takes advantage of the iPhone's and iPod Touch's capabilities for playing and sharing sound and video files and displaying and sending photos. Users can play voicemail messages from their mailbox and access FirstClass calendars and contacts.
Open Text, an enterprise content management software maker, has introduced an iPhone application for accessing services within the company's FirstClass collaboration and messaging suite.

The FirstClass Mobile client, launched last week, is available as a free download from the App Store, a retail site operated by Apple for downloading third-party applications for its smartphone. FirstClass Mobile also can run on Apple's iPod Touch, a handheld computer and entertainment device.

The application takes advantage of the iPhone's and iPod Touch's capabilities for playing and sharing sound and video files and displaying and sending photos. Users can play voicemail messages from their mailbox and access FirstClass calendars and contacts.

"With the FirstClass Mobile App we’re able to give iPhone and iPod touch users a powerful communications solution that delivers a true mobile collaboration experience," John Myers, VP and general manager of Open Text's Communications Solutions Group, said in a statement.

Communicating with the client is the FirstClass server that lets project teams share and collaborate on documents, schedules, voice files, graphics and other information. The data is maintained within topic-based discussion areas.

Open Text's communications and collaboration platform is available across a wide range of computing platforms and devices. The software supports 11 languages and is deployed in 3,000 education organizations worldwide, including four of the top 10 largest school districts in the U.S., and more than 1,000 businesses, according to the vendor.
