re: EHR Adoption Grows As Docs Bid For Incentives
An EHR is a tool like every other diagnostic, analytical, and business management tool that is available within the Healthcare environment. How you approach selecting, implementing, and using that tool has EVERYTHING to do with the outcome... expected or otherwise.
With that said, a comprehensive EHR will become the primary basis of running your entire business. It encompasses both the clinical as well as the business management side of the practice. This makes it a VERY important tool. Providers and Groups need to perform due diligence in researching and selecting the right tool and implementation methodology in order to be successful in the end.
One cannot simply pick something off the shelf in the hope that it will work. That mistake will put you in a deep well from which recovery will be very expensive, frustrating, and time consuming. Unfortunately, I have seen too many practices ignore this fact because they procrastinated and then rushed into a decision.
