Hewlett-Packard today unveiled plans to extend its HP TopTools and HP Web JetAdmin network-management software to the Windows 2000 environment.
The next version of the company's HP TopTools, a free, Web-based application for configuring, managing, and updating devices from any network location, will integrate into the Windows 2000 environment, providing support for the Microsoft Management Console. IT managers will have access to TopTools' remote asset management, fault management, configuration management, and security management from within the Microsoft Management Console. The next version of HP Web JetAdmin, a network peripheral-management software, also be integrated with Windows 2000.
The new versions of the products will be available later this year, though the company did not specify a date.
One analyst believes the HP suite of tools will offer Windows 2000 customers significant capabilities while being easy to use. "This product [TopTools] is just wonderful," says Tony Adams, senior analyst at DataQuest. "You can pick and choose between pretty sophisticated modules, execute this globally, and makes it look simple."
