IBM, Dell, Sun Plan InfiniBand
A trio of computer makers has introduced road maps for InfiniBand-compatible servers and networking equipment. InfiniBand data-center switch technology is designed for link speeds of up to 30 times faster than Gigabit Ethernet. Sun Microsystems plans InfiniBand support in 2004 in its servers, apps, switches, and storage, including its next blades. IBM says it will support InfiniBand in all servers. Dell Computer will include InfiniBand connectivity in its next PowerEdge blades, at an undetermined date.
