IBM, Synhrgy Work Together On HR Services

IBM Global Services and Synhrgy HR Technologies Inc. have teamed up to supply human-resources outsourcing services to large companies.

The partnership will combine IBM's Employee Service Information Technology, a platform that offers support and scalability for large companies' business functions with systems integration, data hosting, and data service center capabilities, with Synhrgy's Web applications, service center support, and consulting services.

As part of the agreement, IBM will receive a minority stake in Synhrgy in return for Synhrgy's exclusive use of the Employee Service Information Technology. Additionally, Larry Cabler, director of employee service at IBM Global Services, will become executive VP of Synhrgy, and John Madigan, executive consultant and manager with IBM Global Services, will become VP of Synhrgy.

The alliance offers "Synhrgy's expertise on all content across the HR competency, along with the technology and scalability of IBM," Cabler says.

IBM and Synhrgy recently began handling HR administrative support for the 29,000 employees of United Health Group, a managed-care organization in Minneapolis. Employees can now ask company policy questions and check 401(k) accounts by calling an IBM service center or accessing the Web.

"We are trying to provide better service and focus to our internal customer at lower costs" by working with IBM and Synhrgy, says Bob Dapper, senior VP at United Health. Outsourcing administrative and transactional needs will let United Health focus on more strategic activities of HR, Dapper says.
