Our photographer on the scene captured the frenzied Friday night opening of Apple's newest store, in a cavernous, warehouse-like space on West 14th Street in New York City.

Apple opened its newest retail store on Friday in New York City, and independent photographer Matthew Dodd , of The iLife blog, was on hand to take a visual portrait of the typically clean shopping experience Apple has packed into the giant, warehouse-like setting.

As Apple noted in its press release, the West 14th Street story is Apple’s first three-story outlet. It has two floors dedicated to products and a third, service-oriented space, complete with a 46-foot Genius Bar.

The new location, which joins existing New York City stores on Fifth Avenue near Columbus Circle and in Soho, features a section dedicated to Apple's Pro Labs where customers can receive training on apps such as Final Cut Pro.

As Matt described the frenzied experience of opening night on his blog:

"While waiting, it was funny to hear the confused people talk and even fight over the ‘free stuff’ supposedly being given away at the ‘iPod Store.’ 'I want some of those free iPhones! or 'Move out of my way, I’m getting a free iPod!' were commonly heard throughout the four or so hours we waited.

However, once we got inside the doors, things all went uphill. All the Apple staff were very courteous and cool (as per usual) and the store was just awesome. Quite possibly my new favorite Apple Store, dethroning SoHo. "
