In Short: 3Com's Rough Quarter

Plummeting sales caused 3Com Corp.'s losses to grow in its fourth quarter, ended May 30. The network equipment vendor had a net loss of $38.4 million, a 61% increase from its loss in the same quarter a year ago. Sales sank 41% for the quarter, to $175 million, partly from the sale of telecom equipment subsidiary CommWorks. For its fiscal year, 3Com had a net loss of $283.8 million, an improvement over a $596 million loss in 2002. Revenue fell 26% to $932.9 million.
