In Short: IT Buyers Unconvinced Of An Upturn
Despite indications of an economic rebound, companies are reluctant to spend on capital goods, including IT. New orders and shipments for durable goods fell 0.3% in May, the second straight monthly decline, according to the Commerce Department's durable-goods report. In the computer segment, shipments plunged 7.8% after soaring 22.6% in April. New orders slipped 1.1% in May; they were up 18.8% in April. April's figures appear to have been an anomaly, since computer shipments and new orders fell 5.8% and 0.8%, respectively, in March.
