In Short: Novell's Good Quarter
Novell continues to reap the rewards from its Linux investment, reporting last week second-quarter net income of $10.4 million, up from a $28.6 million loss in the same quarter a year ago. Revenue was up 6% from a year ago to $293.6 million. The quarter was Novell's first since acquiring SuSE Linux AG.
Company officials attribute much of the rebound to providing customers with a clear migration message. Novell chairman and CEO Jack Messman said in a conference call, "People ... are now finding they don't have to move off of NetWare" to go to Linux.
