Inacom Corp. announced today that it has enlisted Gerald Gagliardi as its new president and CEO. Bill Fairfield, who has been functioning as Inacom's president, CEO, and chairman of the board, will remain chairman.
Inacom's principal services clients are users in both medium and large-size companies. Inacom offers a wide range of services, from maintenance and help-desk support to consulting and network services, primarily from last year's acquisition of Vanstar. The acquisition gave Inacom a total of 7,500 technical professionals, including 660 Microsoft-certified engineers. Inacom, whose roots are in the reseller market where it specialized in the Intel platform, began transitioning to the services market in 1992. By early 1998, Fairfield says, services accounted for 8% to 9% of revenues and more than half of the company's profits.
Gagliardi spent the last 28 years at Unisys, where he most recently was executive VP and president of global customer services. "Gerry was able to turn Unisys from a product company to a services company, and that's what we want him to do for us," Fairfield says.
Gagliardi says he'll spend the next month learning his new business, getting a handle on the company's product portfolio, and reviewing its services offerings. Says Gagliardi: "At first glance I think we may need to expand our network services side as well as some of the expertise surrounding voice-over-data technologies."
