The joint software-as-a-service stack includes Jaspersoft's and Talend's open source business intelligence and data integration technologies, respectively. Vertica is offering its analytic database and RightScale its developer tools for setting up server clusters in a cloud computing environment.
The vendors are prepared to deliver the technologies as an integrated software stack, but customers will have to negotiate licensing agreements with each of the partners. In addition, the vendors will offer their own support.
Pricing is based on a pay-as-you-go subscription model, and the companies are offering a 30-trial at no charge.
The joint product is being marketed as an affordable option for building and using analytic sandboxes and disposable data marts, as well as gaining intelligence on data associated with brief or seasonal projects, the vendors said in announcing the offering at the CloudWorld Expo in San Francisco that ran Aug. 12 and 13.
A recent survey of 500 developers by independent research firm Evans Data found that 29.7% were working on applications for private cloud environments, and another 19.2% said they expected to be doing cloud development within the next 12 months.
Of those using cloud facilities to run applications, 49.8% said they were doing so experimentally or for prototyping; 28.6% for non-critical business applications and 21.6% for business critical applications, the survey showed.
