Crystal, which Business Objects acquired in 2003, becomes the default reporting tool in the Rational environment, a visual modeling and design product for Java applications. The integration of the tools means developers will be able to add reporting functionality to their Java apps without leaving the Rational workspace.
"The Java developer community is an important area of focus for Business Objects," the business intelligence vendor said in a prepared statement. "Crystal Reports has been, and will continue to be, the industry standard for enterprise reporting in the Java developer community."
IBM and Business Objects first said they planned to add Crystal reporting to Rational and to IBM's WebSphere Studio as part of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement they signed last summer. BI tools from Business Objects are currently embedded in IBM's Tivoli data warehouse and other IBM applications.
