With an emphasis on system performance, Informix Corp.yesterday said it has begun shipping the latest release ofits Red Brick Warehouse data mart system, and disclosedupgrade plans for its Formation extract, transform, and load(ETL) software. Both products, which Informix acquired latelast year through its buyout of Red Brick Systems Inc., arecritical components of the database vendor's datawarehousing software lineup. Informix has identified datawarehousing and electronic commerce as its target growthmarkets for the immediate future.
The release of Red Brick Warehouse 5.1.7 includes a morepowerful data engine, a port to 64-bit Sun Solaris, and anew release of the Intersolve driver manager for IBM AIX andSolaris. As Informix had previously disclosed, Red BrickWarehouse 5.1.7 also offers Web-analysis capabilities and isintegrated with Informix's MetaCube relational onlineanalytical processing software. Pricing is based on thenumber of server processors and the number of users.
Formation 1.4, scheduled to ship in June, will featurenative connectivity to all Informix databases and the RedBrick Warehouse, as well as to the Oracle8 Server andMicrosoft SQL Server databases. The ETL tool will alsoprovide automatic parallelism, to improve performance bydistributing workloads across multiple processors, andsurrogate key lookup capabilities. Pricing will begin at$7,500 per processor for the Formation Flow Engine.
