Ingram Micro Taps KPMG For E-Commerce Site

IT products wholesaler Ingram Micro Inc. has engaged KPMGLLP to build an ambitious E-commerce site for its 180,000reseller and distributor customers.

The site will be a significant upgrade fromwww.ingrammicro.com. Among its features will be real-timeorder-status inquiries from the site's Java front end toIngram's mainframe databases. KPMG will build customizationfeatures based on Vignette's personalization tools andproduct configurators using PCOrder.com's Frameworkstechnology.

Ingram hired KPMG in February for strategic consultingadvice on E-commerce strategy, but now KPMG will commitabout 30 people to building the site. It will be KPMG'slargest business-to-business E-commerce project, based onIngram's customer population and its 50 million transactionsa day through various channels. KPMG will deliver siteupgrades in 90-day phases, beginning May 31, with a targetcompletion date of Jan. 31, 2000.
