Interop has announced the finalists for the 2014 Best of Interop awards. Judges chose 27 products and services in 9 categories, including SDN, networking, mobility, cloud, and security. The Best of Interop awards recognize innovative products and services from Interop exhibitors that advance business technology. This year, judges chose the finalists from almost 130 submissions.
Interop judges include industry analysts as well as editors and contributors from Network Computing, InformationWeek, and Dark Reading. Once the submissions are collected, lead judge Steven Hill sorts the submissions by category. Each category has a two-person judging team. The teams review each submission in the category and then meet to choose 3 finalists.
Judges consider several things when choosing finalists, including the degree to which the product advances the state of the art, the product’s ability to solve a problem or provide value, and the “wow” factor -- that is, the presence of a feature or function that’s unique, surprising, or just plain cool.
After the finalists are announced, the category judges meet with each finalist to get a briefing and demonstration. The judges ask questions and drill into details about how the product works. The category judges then confer to select the category winner. All the judges meet as a body to nominate (and argue for) the Grand Award winner.
Interop attendees can weigh in on these products by participating in the Audience Choice award during the keynotes on Wednesday April 2. Interop GM Jennifer Jessup and I will give a brief overview of the winners, and attendees can vote for their favorite product or service using their smartphones.
Attendees can see the finalists and winners on the Expo Floor. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and get a demonstration.
Category winners will be announced at Interop Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 1 at 5:30 pm in the Interop Theater on the Expo Floor. In addition to the category winners and the Grand Award, Interop will also give an award for Best Startup. Stop by to see the award show and join us for a beer afterwards.
