Interop Assembles World-Class Speakers for 2014

Interop Las Vegas 2014 boasts a roster of top IT leaders and instructors, including Ivan Pepelnjak, Greg Ferro, Ethan Banks, Stephen Foskett, and Larry Quinlan.

The Interop team recruited  a compelling roster of speakers and instructors for this year’s Las Vegas conference. Conference attendees will learn from IT leaders running global businesses and get top-notch instruction from some of the best-known practitioners and consultants in networking, cloud computing, storage and more.

Whether you come for long-term strategic planning or comprehensive insight into the latest technologies (or both), our lineup of speakers has you covered.

We’re excited to welcome Larry Quinlan, Global CIO of Deloitte, to the Interop keynote stage. Larry is responsible for Deloitte’s worldwide technology portfolio, including applications, infrastructure and support. It’s a significant undertaking; Deloitte, one of the world’s largest professional services companies, has 200,000 employees in more than 150 countries. As a CIO, he wrestles daily with the challenges and opportunities that technology presents to the enterprise.

The software-defined data center and SDN are hot topics in IT, and our goal is to provide expert instruction and opinion on the technologies that have the potential to upend the traditional enterprise data center. To that end, we’re pleased to offer half-day workshops from two respected voices in networking: Greg Ferro and Ivan Pepelnjak.

Greg and Ivan are tackling the software-defined data center in a pair of workshops that will examine the physical and virtual components required to achieve the scalability and flexibility promised by compute, network, and storage virtualization.

Greg, a network architect who co-hosts the popular Packet Pushers podcast, will explore the designs, protocols and processes required to build a physical network that will serve as the foundation of a next-generation data center. Greg is not shy with his opinions, so you can expect an unvarnished assessment of current and emerging technologies in his workshop “Building the Physical Network for the Software-Defined Data Center.” Greg was also selected by attendees as one of the best speakers at Interop New York in 2013.

We’re also pleased to bring Ivan Pepelnjak back to Interop. A prolific blogger, Ivan is chief technology advisor at NIL Data Communications,  as well as an author and consultant. Ivan will follow Greg’s workshop with “Designing the Virtual Network for the Software-Defined Data Center,” which will focus on software-defined networking and storage, overlay networks, and network function virtualization (NFV). Ivan’s depth of knowledge is remarkable, so come ready with questions.

Ivan will also teach the half-day workshop “Infrastructure for Private Clouds” and an hour-long session on following a packet through a virtual data center. Ivan’s presentations are ideal for architects and designers, as well as network, virtualization and security pros.

Ethan Banks, a network engineer, blogger and Packet Pushers co-host, is presenting two sessions on the Ethernet switching landscape. The first session will examine technologies such as SPB, TRILL, and MLAG in the context of new physical topologies and data center traffic patterns. Ethan will share practical context for taking advantage of these technologies.

The second session will look at more than a dozen offerings from large and small vendors alike, discuss strengths and weaknesses, and chart key differences such as power consumption, port-to-port latency and premium features.

The changes that are transforming IT aren’t limited to the network. Storage is also being remade by automation, virtualization and the cloud. To help get your arms around these changes, Stephen Foskett will give a half-day workshop entitled “The Realities of Enterprise Cloud Storage.” A consultant, blogger and founder of the Tech Field Day events, Foskett will get into the practical realities of cloud-based storage, including public services and in-house private clouds. He’ll delve into the pros and cons of the cloud for primary and archival storage and look at use cases such as disaster recovery.

Join us March 31st through April 4th at Mandalay Bay Convention Center to meet, share with, and learn from your IT peers, and hear from top-notch IT leaders and practitioners. Register today.
