SDN & NFV At Interop Las Vegas

Software defined networking and network functions virtualization are upending the network. Get practical insights into technologies and use cases at Interop.

SDN and NFV are complex creatures. While the basic concepts are simple—virtualize and automate all the network things—actual adoption and deployment demand new technologies and skillsets, and will influence network design and operations.

Interop’s SDN Track has sessions and workshops to help you get your arms around SDN and NFV so you can understand the technologies behind these movements and get insight into the implications of adoption.

SDN Building Blocks

This session by Matt Oswalt takes a technical deep dive into core SDN protocols including OpenFlow, OVSDB, VXLAN, and OpFlex. Whether you want to go the open source or proprietary route for an SDN implementation, you’ll come away with a strong grasp of how these technologies operate.

SDN In Education: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

This practical session by network engineer Tom Hollingsworth examines SDN uses cases for primary and higher education. He'll also share perspective on what SDN is and where it came from, how it can help other organizations with small IT departments, and what the future of SDN holds for small enterprises.

Leveraging SDN For Data Center Security

A variety of use cases are cropping up for SDN, including security. This session will look at SDN offerings from Cisco and VMware to streamline the deployment of policy-based security for physical and virtual environments.

Why The Hyperscale Data Center Is Leading The Enterprise

Facebook, Amazon, Google and other large Web companies are driving innovation in the data center and the network, including architecting and designing their own hardware and software. This sessions will explore what these hyperscale companies are doing in the data center, the benefits they’re reaping, and how enterprises can take advantage of such innovations.

OpenStack Networking: What You Need To Know About Neutron

Network automation and virtualization are essential for organizations that want to develop private and hybrid clouds. OpenStack, the open source cloud project, is growing in popularity as deployment platform. This session drills into Neutron, the networking subsystem of the OpenStack project. It will look at the technology and ecosystem around Neutron and provide guidance on the latest developments.

What NFV Means For The Enterprise

NFV, or Network Functions Virtualization, got its start in large service providers that aimed to replace physical hardware with virtualized instances of network services. But NFV also has implications for the enterprise. Top-rated Interop instructor Ivan Pepelnjak describes NFV case studies for the enterprise and examines crucial aspects of NFV, including performance, service chaining, and orchestration.

Software-Defined Networking and Network Virtualization

This day-long workshop examines the value of SDN and explores how companies can transition to network virtualization and move onward to automation and orchestration. It will provide detailed background on available SDN technologies and implementations, and look at the benefits and drawbacks of each. It will also show live demos of SDN applications and provide attendees with a take-home virtual SDN lab. If you’re considering an SDN deployment in your organization, this workshop is meant for you.

In addition to sessions and workshops, Interop is hosting an SDN Lab as part of InteropNet. The SDN Lab, available on the show floor, includes white board sessions and demonstrations of SDN concepts. Whether you’re part of the paid conference or using a free Expo Pass, the SDN Lab is available to every attendee. You can find other free options here.
