SDN Test Lab To Debut At Interop New York

InteropNet will build an SDN Lab at Interop New York to test the interoperability and performance of SDN hardware and software.

InteropNet will build and host an SDN Lab at Interop New York to test the interoperability of software-defined hardware, software, and applications. This one-of-a-kind project will provide live demonstrations for Interop attendees and help show whether SDN is production-ready for enterprise networks.

InteropNet has developed an RFP for vendors and providers that are interested in participating.

SDN has shaken up the enterprise data center, and promises to disrupt both traditional network operations and the networking market. The goal of SDN is to streamline operations and improve automation to help the network match the provisioning speed and flexibility of other data center resources.

SDN also promises tighter integration between applications and the underlying infrastructure to bring new services and capabilities to data center and campus networks.

The InteropNet team, overseen by lead network architect Glenn Evans, will work with vendor partners and volunteers to build out a comprehensive lab environment. The lab will demonstrate key SDN concepts, such as real-time network adjustments to suite changing workloads, and automated integration of applications and network resources using controllers and APIs.

The lab will be a multi-vendor environment and include both proprietary and open-source products. Multiple providers will implement portions of the network infrastructure, which will help test interoperability and provide opportunities to demonstrate innovative designs.

We are now accepting proposals for participation. The RFP is available here. Submit your proposals via email to [email protected], no later than 5:00pm PST on Friday, July 11, 2014.

The InteropNet SDN Lab will perform live demonstrations for Interop attendees on October 1 and 2. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and attend educational sessions.

The SDN Lab for 2014 will build on the InteropNet OpenFlow Lab, which brought the OpenFlow SDN concept to Interop attendees in 2011.
