Dell Inc. has launched a line of Light Emitting Diode (LED) displays geared for users who are heavily active in all aspects of multimedia such as gaming, movie watching and editing.
The eight LED displays have redesigned consumer, commercial and professional series panels and offer the ability for enhanced digital content creation and use, the company said. Dell will also introduce the first 21.5-inch multi touch monitor this fall with IPS technology for wider viewing angles and better color reproduction, the company said.
LED monitor shipments have risen globally from 2% last year to 17% this year and are expected to be 40% in 2011, said Ross Young, senior VP at electronics research firm IMSResearch. "It's accelerating lately because of the glut in LED TVs, so the TV expectations have rolled back … and some of that supply has shifted to the monitor market."
Global shipments of LED monitors are expected to continue rising to 65% in 2012 and reach full market penetration by 2014, Young said.
"Our new LED monitors ensure our customers are staying ahead of the curve, enjoying their multimedia with a stunning front-of-screen experience and energy conscious design," said Scott Crawley GM, Consumer & SMB Software and Peripherals, at Dell, in a statement.
The new LED monitors come in 22-inch, 23-inch and 24-inch sizes. They meet ENERGY 5.0 compliance and are made of environmentally-friendly materials including arsenic-free glass and mercury-free panels that Dell said will help reduce energy consumption. They also deliver cinematic-quality pictures for enhanced movie watching, game playing and photo editing, the company said.
The new monitor line also features high definition pictures with a 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution, dynamic contrast ratio, fast black to white response time of 5ms and a 16:9 aspect ratio; and digital and analog connectivity features so users can connect the monitor to peripherals with VGA, DVI and HDMI ports.
The 22-inch ST2220L retails for $199.99; the 23-inch ST2320L is $229.99 and the 24-inch ST2420L is $259.99. They are available now at Dell.com and at major electronic retail stores.
Dell has also come out with two new 20-inch 1600 x 900 HD monitors for watching videos and viewing photos. They have a 5ms black to white response time and dynamic contrast ratio estimated at 8 million:1 and are ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliant.
