The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. selected Hewlett-Packard's OpenView software for worldwide network, system, database application, and storage management, HP said Tuesday.

Goodyear will be able to reduce the number of consoles necessary to manage its infrastructure from eight to one, HP says. The tire company is implementing a worldwide management infrastructure, sharing responsibility between data centers in Akron, Ohio, and Europe.

Initially, Goodyear, in conjunction with HP, will implement network management based on HP OpenView Network Node Manager and Network Node Manager Extended Topology, integrated into HP OpenView Operations, HP says.

Event and performance agents will be installed on about 100 HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX systems. The first phase will also include deployment of HP OpenView OS/400 management software and Oracle Smart Plug-In for database management. OpenView Reporter will provide Web-based performance, availability, and utilization reporting.

The second phase of the project, HP says, will involve implementation of HP OpenView Operations for Goodyear's 250 NT servers, along with additional database monitoring.
