Intel will formally introduce its latest notebook platform today, about a month after originally expected. The Centrino 2 platform (formerly codenamed Montevina) comprises a CPU, main-board chipset, and wireless network interface. The CPU is from the new Penryn series, built using Intel's 45nm manufacturing process. The chipset includes GMA X4500 graphics technology and flash-memory caching.
The platform also includes WiFi support and the option to add a WiMax card. Laptops from Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Panasonic, and Toshiba will carry the combination Wi-Fi and WiMax chipsets, according to Intel.
Intel had originally planned to introduce the platform at Computex Taipei in early June, but issues with the integrated graphics and wireless certification caused delays.InformationWeek, TMC.net
