Oracles Certifies Nokia Products
The collaboration is a blend of CRM, database software, and wireless intended to save money and increase operational efficiency.
Oracle said Wednesday that it's certified a number of Nokia products as interoperable with Oracle's CRM and database software, enabling wireless devices to behave and function more like desktop PCs.
Oracle achieved interoperability on three different fronts. It validated Nokia's Intellisync Device Management with Oracle's Siebel CRM software. In addition, Oracle Database Lite is now available on Symbian Version 9/S60 Version 3, which lets enterprises mobilize applications for use on Nokia devices. Finally, Oracle said that Siebel Wireless can run on the Nokia E90 Communicator.
The results stem from ongoing cooperation and co-development between the two companies, Oracle said in a statement.
By blending database, CRM. and wireless, IT can "develop, implement, and manage their mobile applications in a secure and efficient manner, enabling cost savings, increased operational efficiency, and higher customer satisfaction," Oracle claimed.
In qualifying Nokia's Intellisync product, Siebel wireless and handheld mobile applications will get advanced functions like richer device configuration, application management, over the air provisioning, asset collection, help desk, theft-loss protection, and recovery. The interoperability allows enterprises to "create new users, send and accept new device management profiles, set up GPRS/EDGE network settings, and push out URLs to Siebel Wireless that aid in updates or locking out, or wiping devices as needed," Oracle said.
And with Oracle Database Lite now supporting Symbian 9 (S60 v3), mobile devices can operate in occasionally connected environments, synchronizing with back-end database servers when connected. Oracle Database Lite also provides centralized provisioning for applications, users and devices, as well as development tools to build mobile apps for the enterprise.
Lastly, Siebel Wireless is available on the Nokia E90 smartphone, via Siebel's newly added support for the S60 Open Source Software (OSS) browser, giving E90 users maximum flexibility for viewing and editing CRM data, Oracle said.
