Palm To Sell Centro Smartphone Through Verizon

More smartphone news: Palm and Verizon have inked a deal for the wireless carrier to sell Palm's $99 Centro smartphone.Centro, already available to Sprint Nextel and AT&T customers, has helped keep Palm in the market while rivals, including Research in Motion with its BlackBerry and Apple with its iPhone, have gained share. Last quarter, Centro sales boosted Palms' share of U.S. smartphone shipments to 13.4 percent from 7.9 percent in Q4 2007, according to research firm IDC.
This has been a big week for smartphones, with announcements about Apple's new iPhone, Samsung's Ominia and Motorola's MC75.
On a related Verizon note, the company has launched an unlimited wireless calling service aimed at small businesses. The plan includes unlimited calls to up to five landline numbers, and a fixed monthly fee per wireless line of $4.99.
