I remember going to job fairs here at the local college and the author is right, I waited in line for Microsoft over an hour to hand my resume to them and hopefully make a lasting impression within the 45 seconds I was given. It sounds as if Union Pacific has the right idea, get interns in show them the work and it sells itself. I can tell you this that if a company hires an intern coming right out of college and treats them right all around, then they have just developed a loyal and grateful lifetime employee. The only downside to UP that I have heard is that it is headquartered in Omaha that is a hard sell for someone fresh out of college. It is to the point that when one applies for an IT position, it does not matter what the companyG«÷s products or services are and whether or not they are related to IT. Every company I n the very near future will have an IT department filling all varieties of position in the IT field. You have to look at the company and the position and see if you can gain knowledge and useful experience, if this is a stepping stone position. How many people are still at the job that they interned at for college?
