Turn Off Wi-Fi in Apple iOS
Extend battery life on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch by disabling Wi-Fi.
It's so annoying to watch your Apple iPad or iPhone battery die--usually just when you really need it. Here's one way to extend battery life. Turn off Wi-Fi when you're don't need it to connect.
Wi-Fi is a real drain on your iOS device. When it's on, your device's antenna is on, and your system is ever active, always checking for networks, getting push notifications, and downloading email. Way inefficient! So the next time you set down your iOS device, just disable Wi-Fi.
First, go to Settings >> Wi-Fi. Slide over or tap Wi-Fi from On to Off. That turns off the antenna.
Notice the Choose a Network section disappears when Wi-Fi is off.
When you need Wi-Fi back, just reverse the steps in this tip. And watch our iOS All-Team coverage page for other battery-saving tips as I post them this week.
