It is is interesting, because I think it might take a couple decades but that the role of "physician" is likely to be more dirupted by technology than that of IT manager. There may be a day where AI and scripted programs take over the role of general practitioner and we see a world where specialists are the only well-paid doctors.
I think back to most of my visits to the doctor in the last couple of years. Almost all have centered on my being sick and wanting to know if I just had a virus or I needed an antibiotic. For the most part, I'd trust a machine with that.
My last trip to the doctor, I thought I might have Strep. The nurse swabbed me. We waited for the test. It came back negative, and the doctor looked at my throat and confirmed I had a virus. Wham bam, the doctor saw me for far less than I waited for the test result. I would have been fine with my phone telling me the results at home instead of waiting. Cortona or Siri could have done that.
