Sony said it is discussing the replacement plan with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and will announce details of the program soon.
As Sony announced discussions for the replacement plan the day after IBM and Lenovo announced recalled another batch of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries made by Sony.
In its statement Thursday, Sony said it has been supporting the recall of the suspect battery packs marketed by Dell and Apple.
Sony said it will consult with its OEMs that use the batteries.
"We believe that this (replacement) program is in the best interests of both our customers and all consumers," Sony said.
