Re: IT still not understood
Very good point. It is a good idea to store data for that reason, but to try to run reports and analyze all of it is redundant....unless you need it.

I am finishing up my MBA right now with a concentration in project management. I already have the Master of Information Systems. My goal is to manage large IT projects eventually.

Yep. I've worked in data extraction and report building for the last 15 years, and you are 100% correct.

I am sure that by now they have uograded their systems to allow for online viewing of reports. It just amazed me, the failure in communication and waste of time and materials.

Re: IT still not understood
"Absolutely. If you have no rhyme or reason of use for the data, collecting it is just a waste of time."

StaceyE, as long as it's not considering or applying anywhere; it's a waste. But it may helpful in future for some other purpose like as a reference or for modeling etc.

Re: IT still not understood
"Exactly. Howver, the people who requested the reports and created them did not consider what was actually "needed" by the person using the reports. SO..they required us to create and print much more than was needed."

StaceyEE, if the persons not using/reading the entire report then your effort is going to waste. Make it available online, so anyone can read and can have the printout for the details that they required.
