Comic: When Siri Hates You

You put your life in the hands of your phone every day.

Thought about downloading Cortana instead? Maybe Siri will get jealous.

Brian Moore is a cartoonist and illustrator. His first brush with the world of IT was a very part-time gig applying software patches on a TRS-80 Model III. The patches were about four lines long and arrived in the mail, typed on letterhead. He has since moved on to computers ... View Full Bio

Re: When we all feel that way

Exactly! Kids at a young age don't fully understand the closed end questioning involved in AI so it is hysterical. It reminds me of the crazy 8 ball when I was a kid--we thought it could really tell you the truth! The idea that all of Siri is built in lines of code that access knowledge bases of predetermined answers would take so much of the fun out of it! My daughter loved Big hero six and even sleeps with a stuffed Baymax its the same principle except he's cuter than Siri!

Re: When we all feel that way
impactnow, how interesting. :) You probably learn a lot also from your daughter's questions. Schools teach about AI , but I am not sure at what level. AI is one of the things your daughter's generation is going to live with, so they need to start getting familiar with simple AI like SIri, for example. -Susan

Re: When we all feel that way

Susan my daughter is nine and thinks it's great when we ask Siri a factual question and she provides and answer. The idea of AI is not really understood by someone that young so she asks Siri multi-level questions on occasion or personal preferences and yields comical answers, she thinks its hysterical. So for her Siri is part educator part comedian.

For me I do occaisionally ask Siri questions that she cannot answer but its more of understanding how to ask questions and get answers.

impactnow, maybe you want to share what your daughter does? :) I haven't really had any problems with SIri. In fact, I enjoy our conversations quite a lot. -Susan

When we all feel that way
I have been frustrated by Siri as I am sure we all have been from time to time however when it works its great. My young daughter thinks its funny to try and confuse Siri, Apple should use her technique to improve Siri's capabilities. She can always make her stumble.
