Re: only one
Well as an ex-IT guy I can tell you that getting your bosses pleased required a set of skills not particular to any field, i.e. you must be an all rounder. A generalized IT guy is more powerful than a specialized IT guy, and because of this I too have worked to maintain security and test the database defences for a company.

That's what I mean @SachinEE, you'd need a whole hat rack worth of hats for the job.

@StaceyE Come to think of it, that makes a great gag gift: a box of many different hats -- for the man or woman who has to wear many different ones.

Re: only one
@SachinEE: Most IT guys are generalized. IT basically means Information Technology which can take many many forms. I remember once I had to go through my ten year old biology school books to solve a problem at hand.

@yalanand

It is interesting trying to explain to someone what it means when you say you work in IT. I always get, "So, what exactly does that mean?"

Hats
I wish more jobs were designated by a certain coloured piece of headwear. I'd have myself in a blue beanie if given the choice.

Re: Hats
Yes I think workplaces should excercise this color coding scheme. Like if anyone is from the Management department he should wear a green tie, and the technical department boys should wear brown. This would make working easy and fun.

As a bonus, that would certainly make things easier on new employees who haven't met everyone yet.

@sachinEE. That's a good idea. The employees will be able to clearly see their departments and job roles, which is good.

@SachinEE

Maybe not a bad idea, could follow the example of most hospitals. Employees of different levels have different colored scrubs.

@ Whoopty,

Your blue beanie would indeed be cool, but I think I would opt for a powder pink cow-girl hat. ;)
