Company Checks IDs Of Online Wine Shoppers

Florida ID verification company says it enables businesses to access public databases to verify ages of consumers.
When the U.S. Supreme Court approved interstate sales of wine to consumers, it solved one problem but it created another: how will underage consumers be kept from buying alcohol over the Internet?

IDology Group LLC says its IDlive Internet identity verification applications are effective for verifying customers' personal information, including age. The firm noted that it already provides its service to Web wine supplier Wine.com Inc. and other wineries in the U.S.

The Tallahassee, Florida, ID verification company said its IDlive program enables businesses to create their own verification system to access public databases to verify ages of consumers. Personal information of consumers is not divulged.

On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a 5-to-4 ruling rejecting laws regulating out-of-state wine sales to consumers.
