A look at emerging technology that's disruptive--and that isn't.
Wrist-worn computers give workers access to information without impeding their field jobs. The devices come with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities and are designed for people in health care, maintenance, logistics, law enforcement, and transportation. They use the Linux or Windows CE operating systems. Parvus, which makes the devices, demonstrated them at last week's TechNet International Conference in Washington.

Mash-ups borrow from blogs, wikis, and similar technologies to let developers build on-the-spot business apps in minutes. IBM has introduced Enterprise Mashup technology that combines Web services such as news feeds and maps with existing business data to create customized apps. Web objects can be inserted into mash-ups using scripting tools that most Web developers already have.
