With the service, people push an assigned button on the BlackBerry, made by Research In Motion Ltd., and request top news stories, sports scores, weather forecasts, movie times, directory listings, stock quotes and other information on Gannett's national newspaper. The BlackBerry Web browser is automatically opened to a page displaying the requested content.
The MobileVoiceControl system is downloadable to the user's BlackBerry handset over the network and does not require any user voice training. The system also gives users the ability to dial by voice command, verbally add appointments to their calendars, and to dictate emails.
In the future, Gannett plans to add local content from its newspapers and broadcast television stations. The service is available through the Sprint PCS network.
