International Trade Commission To Investigate Nokia Phones In Patent Dispute

The ITC investigation is based on a complaint filed by InterDigital last month and is said to involve Nokia's N75 mobile phone.
The mobile phone patent wars took on a new dimension this week as the U.S. International Trade Commission announced plans to investigate some imported Nokia cell phones.

Earlier this summer, the ITC blocked imports of some mobile phones containing chips made by Qualcomm after that firm lost patent litigation with Broadcom.

The ITC investigation of Nokia, announced Wednesday, is based on a complaint filed by InterDigital last month and is said to involve Nokia's N75 mobile phone.

According to media reports, Nokia paid InterDigital $253 million after it won patent litigation with Nokia a few years ago. InterDigital, which develops wireless technologies, said it filed the complaint with the ITC after it failed to reach an agreement with Nokia on thepatents.

The mobile phone industry has been racked with patent litigation in recent months, much of it involving Qualcomm, Nokia, and Broadcom.
