Strassmann will conduct an analysis of NASA information-management operations and will support the development and implementation of an agencywide vision for IT. He will also work closely with NASA CIO Lee Holcomb as well as the special assistant to the administrator for financial management to optimize the efficiency and operation of the space agency's SAP-based Integrated Financial Management Program.
"His experience in advancing next-generation technologies and information-management concepts will be vital as the agency explores a comprehensive IT strategy," O'Keefe said in a statement.
Strassmann held top IT executive posts at General Foods, Kraft, and Xerox from the early '60s through the mid-'80s. In the early '90s, Strassmann--now an IT consultant--served as an IT adviser to the deputy defense secretary and was later named the department's first director of defense information, responsible for organizing and managing the Defense Department's corporate information-management program. In 1993, the Defense Department awarded Strassmann the Defense Medal of Distinguished Public Service, its highest civilian award.
