Enterprise Management Associates analyst Tim Wilson says many vendors, including Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, and Tivoli, are interested in developing this support, but he says Vantage is one of the first suites available for .Net. He also says .Net has no feature for customers to monitor its performance. Wilson says such performance management is an afterthought for any application developer. "But it's important here for anyone building out Web services to customers or anyone demanding certain service levels," he says, "like subsecond response time or 99% availability."
NewsSoftware maker Compuware Corp. sees an opportunity in buyers of Microsoft's .Net who will want to closely watch--and quantify--how the new software performs. Compuware said Tuesday it would begin selling modules of its Vantage 8 app-performance suite so customers can monitor .Net's performance. The modules being broken out are Application Expert, Application Vantage, ClientVantage, NetworkVantage, and Predictor. Together, they're designed to help customers analyze, profile, monitor, and troubleshoot apps. The modules will be priced from $25,000 to $35,000 each, and all but App Expert and Predictor are available today. The other modules will be available by summer.
