Korean mobile phone vendor Pantech says its five megapixel cameraphone will be smaller than competing offerings.
South Korean mobile phone vendor Pantech said it will soon release a five megapixel cameraphone that it claims will be smaller than the handful of similar devices..

The vendor said in a statement that its IM-8600 will be a rotating clamshell phone with a 2-inch QVGA display. Its dimensions will be 99 mm by 48.5 mm by 26.4 mm and will weigh 132 grams, including the battery, according to Pantech.

It said it is using its proprietary Mecca Shutter technology to manage the amount of light used to create the image, which it claimed will create sharper photos. In addition, the IM-8600 will support capturing moving images at 30 frames per second, the company said.

In addition, the company said it will release the IM-8700 with a 2.2-inch screen that will be aimed at video messaging between two users.

The company didn't say which mobile carriers might make the phone available or provide pricing information.
