The new product features enhancements in its core applications on the Linux platform, said Linspire. The operating system comes with such desktop applications as OpenOffice.org (a Microsoft file-compatible office suite), Web browser, e-mail and instant messaging clients, multimedia viewers; photo and music managers, and calendaring tools.
In a statement, Linspire CEO Michael Robertson said selling his software in places such as Best Buy, CompUSA, and Micro Center makes it possible to reach more mainstream computer users.
A standard version of Linspire Five-0 without a service subscription sells for $59.95; tack on an additional $40 for a one-year service subscription.
