Microsoft responded to an embarrassing claim that it had inadvertently made it difficult for exhibitors using its Outlook messaging client to send E-mail from last week's Microsoft Exchange Conference, viewed as the world's biggest messaging event. Analyst David Ferris said in a news blast that organizers failed to supply the outbound Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service needed to send E-mail from a LAN. Microsoft pooh-poohed any problems, and one exhibitor said he could send E-mail from the LAN by changing his IP settings. The rub? Many didn't know how or didn't have the admin rights to do so.
