New Gadget Enables Free VoIP Calls

A company called TelEvolution today announced its new PhoneGnome product, which uses VoIP and the user's existing telephone service to enable free calls over the Internet using a regular telephone.
A company called TelEvolution today announced its new $119 PhoneGnome product, which uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and the user's existing telephone service to enable free calls over the Internet using a regular telephone.

The company claims the PhoneGnome lets you make free long-distance calls, and does not require the use of access codes or PINs.

Once installed, you simply make calls as you normally would. If the call would be free anyway, the connection is made via the phone company. If there would be a charge, then PhoneGnome places the call over the Internet via VoIP.

The product also enables additional services, such as providing voicemail for traditional-phone calls that is sent via e-mail as a sound attachment. Other services include an online phone book, "Click-to-Dial," telemarketer screening and call logging.
