StorageX 3.0, the latest version of the software, costs $2,000 per managed device. It lets administrators replicate files between Network Appliance products and Windows-based appliances from Dell, HP, and IBM. The software also lets administrators set policies to automate tasks such as disaster recovery and data migration.
Adding new NAS systems and migrating data to them is usually a thorny issue. "StorageX is the first real solid implementation to mask all those NAS migration issues from users," says Steve Duplessie, founder of research firm the Enterprise Storage Group. With StorageX, he adds, users never realize they're accessing files from a different device.
